Best Landscaper® 'Early Scout'
Originator: (Auten, 1952)
Group: Herbaceous Hybrid
Bloom period: Very Early
Bloom week: 1
Flower form: Single
Height: Semi-dwarf
USDA Zone: 3 to 7
Item number: 2203

Details:

The single, small size flower opens deep, dark red. Two rows of broad, rounded petals surround a yellow boss of bright yellow stamens. The pigments are quite stable, and the flower retains its brilliant color as it matures. It is a quaint, early season flower that tolerates late spring freezing events. Flower and plant size are harmonious and well-proportioned. The compact, semi-dwarf bush exhibits a very satisfying plant habit. It is vigorous with good increase and sometimes spreads by root sprouts under suitable growing conditions. This variety is a dependable bloomer that bares flowers close to the canopy of dense, deeply cut leaves. The foliage is reminiscent of its fern leaf peony ancestry but is not as feathery. The bush holds its shape well against inclement weather events but tends to go dormant quite early in the dry and hot summer here in Missouri. It is an adorable, little peony that graces the near border with an early dash of color.
