Also similar to Singles and Japanese forms, except the stamen segments are further transformed into slender petals, called petalodes, often near the same color as the guard petals. This form is less constant, inasmuch as lesser advancement of the center segments may result in near Japanese form staminodes. Greater advancement may result in larger center segments and a Bomb form. It is an intermediate and fluid form that requires skill and good training to determine with certainty. Exhibitions usually call for Anemone and Japanese forms to be judged together in the same classes. The Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) calls the Japanese form of peonies Imperials, a designation which we have adopted in this catalog to include both the Japanese and Anemone flower form peonies. We do this to uphold the integrity of the standard ISHS nomenclature but are adopting a new term for a hitherto unnamed combined Japanese/Anemone class of peonies.
